XK-150 Digital/Analog Trainer Procedure
This procedure outlines the steps for setting up, operating, and testing the XK-150 Digital/Analog Trainer for building, testing, and prototyping analog and digital circuits.
Safety Precautions
Never short the positive and negative binding posts together. Avoid touching live wires when the unit is powered.
Always turn off the device before making any adjustments to the internal wiring or connections.
Power Supply Testing
Turn the power switch to ON. The red LED indicator will light up
Rotate the +15V and -15V knobs fully counterclockwise before starting any measurement. Using a digital voltmeter, measure the voltage at the respective binding posts. The initial output should be around ±1.25V. Turn both knobs fully clockwise to check the maximum output, which should be between ±14.5V to ±16V.
Short the POS binding post to GND and the NEG binding post to GND individually. Ensure the voltage drops to zero and recovers once the short is removed.
Measure across the AC output terminals to ensure approximately 30VAC across terminals 1 and 3, and 15VAC between terminals 2 and 1.
Function Generator Testing
Connect an oscilloscope to the SINE wave binding post. You should observe a sine wave with an output of approximately 4Vpp. Adjust the frequency between 200 and 4,000Hz in the x1 range and 2,000 to 40,000Hz in the x10 range.
Test the square wave output using the same method. It should show an amplitude of approximately 9.5Vpp
Digital Section Testing
> Use an oscilloscope to measure clock signals at the CLOCK output terminals. The signals should vary according to the selected frequency (1Hz, 1kHz, 100kHz, or 60Hz). > Alternatively, verify with the LED logic indicators. Connect the CLOCK output to the corresponding LED terminals and observe the behavior according to the frequency setting
Test the two logic switches by connecting them to the logic indicator terminals. Each switch position change should light up the corresponding LED.
Data Switch Testing
Ensure all data switches (SW0 to SW7) are in the down position (output = GND). Connect each switch to its corresponding LED logic indicator terminal and verify that the LED lights up when the switch is flipped up (5V output).
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
The trainer uses a 0.25A 250V fuse. Replace the fuse if the unit fails to power on, ensuring the unit is unplugged before performing this action
Wipe the exterior of the trainer with a dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid the use of solvents or liquids on any electrical components.
