Tektronix MDO34 3-Series Oscilloscope Procedure

This Standard Operating Procedure outlines the correct steps for powering, configuring, and operating the 3 Series Mixed Domain Oscilloscope (MDO34) for accurate signal acquisition and analysis.

    Safety Precautions:

    Procedure

Press the Power button located on the front panel. The button lights blue when powered on, and yellow in standby mode.

After powering on, wait for the screen to initialize. Navigate to Utility > Self-Test on the top menu bar. Confirm that all modules pass the self-test. If any test fails: - Power cycle the oscilloscope and rerun the self-test. - Contact Tektronix support if the issue persists.

Connect the appropriate probe (e.g., TPP0250 for 250 MHz bandwidth) to the input connector. Ensure the probe is securely connected until the base latch locks. If using TekVPI probes, verify that the channel automatically configures the correct settings.

Connect the probe to the Device Under Test (DUT). To automatically display the signal, press the Autoset button. - The oscilloscope adjusts vertical, horizontal, and trigger settings for an optimal display. Use the Run/Stop button to start and stop waveform acquisition.

Vertical Settings: Use the Vertical Scale and Position knobs to adjust amplitude and center the signal. Horizontal Settings: Adjust time base using the Horizontal Scale knob to zoom in or out on the waveform. Trigger Settings: Set the trigger level using the Trigger Level knob to stabilize the waveform.

To add a measurement, press Measure, and select the type of measurement (e.g., voltage, frequency). To capture a single acquisition, press Single/Seq. The display will freeze once the waveform is captured. To zoom in on a specific portion of the waveform, press Zoom and adjust the zoom level.

Save the captured waveform by pressing Save and selecting the file format (e.g., .csv, .wfm). Save a screenshot by navigating to Save Image under the File menu.

power down the oscilloscope, press the Power button until the device enters standby mode.

Run periodic calibration using the Calibration function found under the Utility menu. Inspect probes for damage before each use.
