Tektronix MDO3054 Oscilloscope Procedure
This procedure outlines the standard steps for safely operating the Tektronix MDO3054 Oscilloscope, including probe setup, signal measurement, and data analysis.
Safety Precautions:
Insulated Voltage Probes: Use only insulated voltage probes, test leads, and adapters specified for the product to avoid electrical shock. Finger Guards: Ensure fingers remain behind the finger guards on the probes to prevent accidental contact with high voltage.
Pre-Operation
Ensure the oscilloscope and accessories (probes, leads) are free from damage and are functioning properly. Use only Tektronix probes or ones specified for the oscilloscope.
Connecting Probes
Plug the probe into one of the analog channel inputs (CH1–CH4) located on the front panel. Attach the ground clip of the probe to a ground point on the circuit under test. Connect the probe tip to the desired test point on the circuit
Perform probe compensation to ensure accurate signal capture by following the probe compensation process: - Connect the probe to a reference signal from the calibration terminal. - Adjust the compensation trimmer on the probe until the waveform is flat across the top. For TPP0250, TPP0500B, or TPP1000 probes, follow the automatic compensation settings.
Press the Power button located on the front panel. Allow the oscilloscope to complete its boot-up process, indicated by the display initialization.
Setting up the Oscilloscope for Measurement
Press the Autoset button to automatically adjust the settings based on the connected signal. The oscilloscope will set the time base, voltage scale, and trigger level to display a stable waveform.
Select the channel to configure by pressing the appropriate channel button (CH1-CH4). Adjust vertical scaling using the Scale knob. Position the waveform vertically on the display using the Position knob. Adjust the time base using the Time/Div control for horizontal scaling.
Set the trigger type by pressing the Trigger Menu button. Choose the desired trigger mode (Edge, Pulse, etc.) based on the signal type. Adjust the trigger level using the Trigger Level knob.
Analyzing Signals
Adjust the waveform intensity using the Intensity control. Set display persistence for signal averaging or tracking of long data.
Press the Math button and select FFT to view the frequency domain of the signal.
Insert a USB drive into the front panel USB port. Save waveform data by pressing the Save/Recall button and selecting Save Waveform.
After completing measurements, press the Power button. Disconnect the probe and accessories from the oscilloscope.
