Golf Course Standards and Maintenance Procedures: Fairways

The Fairway PM checklist helps the Maintenance teams as they must routinely repair them because damaged turf makes players unhappy. Not only are divots ugly, but they can ruin an otherwise good game!

The following maintenance practices are employed for fairways:

Mowing two or three times per week at a height ranging from .525”.

Vary the direction of mowing to promote better cut for consistency.

Weed control as needed, generally 2 times per year.

Fertilize (light frequent applications) to promote healthy turf as needed, generally once per month.

Apply PRIMO, grow regulator, every four weeks during the growing season.

Aerify or slice once per year, usually in the fall.

Sand topdressing to increase drainage.

STANDARDS

Mowing height of .525”

Sand topdressing − add approximately ½” per year in identified areas. (generally wetter locations)
