Scotsman Ice Machine NME & FME Flaker 17-2868-01: General Maintenance

Preventive Maintenance: Ice Machines require periodic maintenance to be able to deliver like-new reliable performance.

The maintenance will be in three areas:

The ice machine’s water system
The ice storage bin.
Air cooled models need their condenser cleaned.

Schedule:

Note: In some areas the water supply to the ice maker will have a great deal of minerals in it, and that will result in an evaporator and auger becoming coated with these minerals, requiring more frequent maintenance than twice per year.

For the Owner or Operator:

Several items can be “do it yourself” procedures:

Water filter change - estimated time 5 minutes
Air filter cleaning or change - estimated time 10 minutes
Storage bin cleaning & sanitizing - estimated time 25 minutes
De-scaling of the ice machine water system - estimated time 60 minutes

The following items will require a technician:

Condenser coil cleaning.
Top bearing inspection and relubrication

General Procedures:

Change Water Filters

Shut off the water.
Remove the cartridge - follow water filter instructions for the brand used.
Replace with a new one.
Turn the water back on.

Change or Clean Air Filters (air cooled models only)

Remove front panel.
Lift up and remove filter.
Wash filter in cold water or replace it with a new one (Scotsman # 02-2976-01).

Clean and Sanitize the Ice Storage Bin

Remove ice.
Mix 8 oz. Ice Machine Cleaner (Scotsman # 19-0343-06) with 3 quarts of warm water.
Scrub all interior surfaces of the bin with the cleaning solution.
Pour balance of solution into the bin. Rinse with one gallon of hot water.
Make sanitizing solution. Use locally approved sanitizer or mix 1 ounce of household bleach with 1 gallon of warm water.
Thoroughly scrub all interior surfaces of the bin with the sanitizing solution.
Pour balance of solution into the bin.

Ice Machine Front Panel

De-scale the Ice Machine Water System.

Go through steps to clean and sanitize the storage bin.

Remove front panel.

Switch ice machine OFF.

Shut off water supply.

Drain reservoir using drain tube

Mix 8 ounces of Scotsman Ice Machine Cleaner with 3 quarts of warm water.

Remove reservoir cover.

Pour cleaning solution into the reservoir until it is full. Do NOT pour ice machine cleaner directly from the bottle into the reservoir!

After 15 minutes, start the ice machine and as it runs slowly pour the balance of the cleaning solution into the reservoir.

Turn on the water supply.

After 15 minutes of added run time, pour enough hot water into the bin to melt the ice made with the cleaning solution.

Return all covers and panels to their normal positions or repeat with sanitizing solution instead of ice machine cleaner.
