Preoperational inspection
Record unit miles, engine hours, and PTO hours if equipped
Perform DOT air brake check and set parking brake when completed
Turn on all lights and inspect during walk around
Inspect automatic transmission fluid (if equipped) and adjust if necessary
Under chassis service
Inspect steering and front end suspension components for loose, bent, worn, or broken items
Inspect steer axle brake shoe depth (no less than 1/4" per FMCSV 393.47) and drum for excessive wear
Inspect steer axle hubs for leaking inside and out
Grease steering shaft, gear box, king pins, brake hardware, and steering components
Inspect engine and transmission mounting points, PTO and pump securement, and manual transmission fluid level (if equipped)
Inspect transfer case for proper fluid level and correct if necessary
Inspect frame and structural components for cracks or bends
Inspect drive axle brakes for wear (no less than 1/4" per FMCSV 393.47) and drum for wear
Inspect drive axle suspension components for loose, bent, worn, or broken items
Inspect drive axle hubs for leakage inside and out
Inspect differential lube level and correct if necessary
Inspect rear of unit for damage to structural components
Completion checks
Apply service brakes and check brake stroke on all chambers, no more than 80% per FMCSV 393.7
Inspect all tires for tread depth and tire pressure (4/32" on steer axle and 2/32" on drives) set tires to 100PSI
Note all defects found on inspection
