Chipboard Assembly Puncher Brake Pin Replacement

This procedure outlines the steps required to replace a broken brake pin. It begins with notifying all operators and affected parties about the maintenance work on the machine and ensuring that it is properly locked out to prevent accidental operation during the repair process.

    Center punch pin from outside of frame

    Block head so machine cannot move

    Use a 1/4” drill bit and drill from the outside of the frame. Sometimes the bolt will spin out if the bit grabs enough. You might have to drill a hole clear through, if bolt did not come out while drilling. use a EX-4 1/4” easy out from under the machine to remove broken bolt

    Use the same easy out to extract the broken fitting within the brake

    Mark the shaft at the sleeve with a marker so you know where to put it to when you re-assemble

    Using a half-inch box wrench, loosen the taper lock

    Use three 5/16-18 x 1-1/2” long full threaded socket head screws so you do not damage the factory bolts. Apply a small bit of grease to the tip of the boat to reduce the friction and aid in a separation of the Taperlock.Thread these into the opposing holes from where you just removed the factory screws. Thread these three in equally until you feel the taper lock separate.

    Using an 1/8 inch Allen wrench loosen the set screw that retains the key. Then tap a screwdriver or some form of wedge into the taper lock sleeve, so you can move it on the shaft away from the brake hub assembly

    Install new pin. Thread it in until it gets tight.

    Slide brake housing onto newly installed pin.Lightly tap sleeve back into break housing so you can see the line you put on the shaft. Tap the key in flush with the sleeve.

    Install new fitting and hose.

    Reset E-Stop and turn on air.  using a small Allen wrench push the bottom of the solenoid, and you will hear the break open. Once open, spin the disk to align the bolts that you removed earlier from the taper lock

    After all, three bolts are installed, tighten them equally to secure the brake assembly to the shaft sleeve

    After the sleeve is tight, make sure the key is still flush with the edge of the sleeve then tighten the set screw using a 1/8 inch Allen wrench

    You should now be able to remove the blocks and test run the machine. If machine functions properly, it may be returned to production. Notify all parties involved.
