General Forklift Inspection Checklist

This procedure will help reduce the guesswork if your forklifts or machines are ready for use and can also help reduce expenses through avoidable repairs. Before operating any forklift it is necessary to perform pre-operational checks to identify damage, prevent accidents and to ensure the forklift is safe to use.

An operator should inspect the forklift truck every day, including at the beginning of each shift, and before using each time.

The operator should carry out a visual check ("circle" check) before starting the forklift. After completing the visual pre-start check, the operator should do an operational pre-use check.

    Operational Pre-Use Check:

Report any problems identified in daily check to the supervisor immediately.

Check with your jurisdiction for any requirements regarding frequency of checks, and maintenance.
