AED Preventive Maintenance (PM) Inspection Checklist

Maintenance inspections can identify minor issues before they turn into costly repairs. Inspections ensure machines are working correctly and helps prevent equipment downtime.

1. Visual Inspection

Exterior: Check for physical damage to the AED unit. Ensure the AED is clean and free of dust and debris. Verify that all components (pads, battery, cables) are present and securely connected.

2. Battery Check

Battery Status: Check the battery indicator to ensure the battery is charged and within the expiration date. Replace the battery if it shows low charge or is past its expiration date.

3. Pads and Electrodes

Pads Condition: Inspect the pads for any damage or signs of wear. Check the expiration date on the pads and replace if expired. Ensure the pads are properly connected to the AED.

Self-Test and Functionality

Self-Test: Perform the AED’s self-test function (usually automatic; verify that it runs properly). Check for any error messages or warning indicators during the self-test.

Audible Alerts:

Ensure the AED’s audible alerts (voice prompts and beeps) are working correctly.
