Over time, a transformer can encounter critical issues that lead to failure and can cause problems. Regular maintenance of a transformer aims to maintain both the internal and external parts safely and minimize any transformer downtime.

    ENERGY CONTROL PROGRAM

    Perform LOTO in accordance with the LOTO risk assessment.

    Requirement

    This PM must be completed by a licensed electrical contractor (certified to work on commercial high voltage) and not a Cintas partner.

    De-energize all electrical power and verify LDL before performing work.

    Transformers

    After de-energizing, remove top covers and check LDL, inspect insides, inspect coils, inspect connections and insulators -remove loose dust or dirt deposits with a vacuum cleaner.

    Examine the transformer for signs of overheating, deterioration, arcing, loose or broken parts, or other abnormal conditions. Torque all connections to manufacturer specifications. (Appendix 4)

    Service Transformer

    Verify that service transformer inspections are completed by the local power company. (Appendix 5)
