Exits and Entrances
Are there sufficient exits for quick escape in the event of a fire?
Are exit doors free from any items, locks and fastens that could restrict escape?
Are routes, signs, and doors clearly marked?
Fire Protection
Are sprinkler control valves easy to reach and locked open or monitored?
Do sprinkler heads have proper clearance from material (at least 45 cm or 18 in)?
Are portable fire extinguishers readily available?
Are fire extinguishers inspected monthly?
Are fire doors in good repair and free from obstruction?
Are fire alarms in good working order?
Floors (Walking and Working Surfaces)
Are surfaces free from slip hazards (water, ice, snow, oil, grease)?
Are surfaces free from trip hazards (electrical, cords, tools, torn carpet, uneven or surfaces)?
Are floors free from protruding objects?
Ladders
Are ladders in good condition?
Are ladders properly positioned and secured when in use?
Are ladders properly positioned and secured when in use?
Are defective ladders tagged to indicate that they are not to be used?
Are cages on permanent ladders in good condition?
Are portable ladders stored properly?
Lighting
Are all walking and working areas clearly lit?
Are all lights in good operating conditions?
Are protective lenses in good condition light fixtures clean?
Are windows clean?
Are emergency lights checked once a month?
Machines and Guarding
Are all guards and safety devices in place (guards for moving parts, interlocks, on access doors)?
Do emergency stop buttons work properly? Are they labeled and easy to reach?
Are danger or warning signs clearly posted on equipment?
Are all colleague LOTO locks and devices clearly labeled?
Are all electrical wires free of damage or fayed wires?
Power/Hand Tools & Equipment
Are tools and equipment in good condition?
Are guards in place on tools and free from damage?
Are electrical cords on tools in good condition (no electrical tape)?
Is defective equipment tagged appropriately?
Are load limits of hoist clearly labeled and maintained?
Are tool rests for bench grinders set at no more than 4 mm (1/8")
Stacking and Storing
Are racks and and shelves in good condition and labeled with the load capacity?
Are shelves and racks properly secured?
Are materials stored securely on shelves?
Are materials properly labeled?
Stairs
Are stairs, stairwells, and landings kept clear and unobstructed?
Are stairways adequately lit?
Are stairs, steps, and treads, in good condition and have non-slip surfaces?
Is a hand rail provided and in good condition?
Propane
Are all propane cylinders stored outside, and properly secured in the cage?
Are all propane tanks stored in the proper orentation?
Do propane storage areas have no smoking signs and orentation signage?
Forklifts
Are daily forklift inspections completed and records maintained?
Are all forklift safety devices operational?
Housekeeping
Are daily/weekly/monthly housekeeping inspections being completed as required?
For grain handling locations, are priority areas (with in 35 ft of bucket elevators, indoor grain grinding or drying equipment) free of dust over 1/16th inch?
Did blowdown occur within past 30-days? If yes, completed permit available for review?
