Dock Leveler Procedure

PM Procedure for Dock Levelers - Its primary purpose is to create a smooth and safe transition for the loading and unloading of goods between different heights, typically between the loading dock and a vehicle.

A second person is required to raise the deck and hold it up while the safety strut is installed

The safety strut should be the original equipment supplied by the manufacturer and installed in its correct location

Once the strut is placed correctly, instruct your helper to let the plate down

Once the dock plate is secure, shut down the power supply and lock it out

The pit should be clean and free of debris that may have fallen through

Grease. The blue arrow indicates grease points along the hinge. Do not over grease, a little goes a long way

Check hydraulic fluid level. The red arrow shows the hydraulic oil reservoir.

Fluid level is low

if the answer is "oneOf [Fluid level is low]"

Add the correct fluid if needed. Quite often there is a high and low mark on the dipstick. With the deck in the air a reading at the low mark is ok. Do not overfill.

Moving parts that do not have a grease fittings should be lubricated.

Once the inspection, cleaning and lubrication is complete, remove the lock out, raise the deck and have your helper hold it up while you remove the safety strut. Signal that you are clear and allow them to lower the dock plate to its nested position.
