Maintenance Rigging, Monthly Inspection
Log and Inspect all maintenance department rigging, (Web slings, chain slings, lever hoists, chain hoists and anchor points)
Use Excel Spreadsheet "Eastern Alloys Rigging Inspection Report"
Locate each item on the list, inspect for defects and log inspection on the form.
Items passing inspection may be tagged with a green tag with the date written in and zip tied to the rigging so that the item may not be used without removing the tag. Any items found with tag may be logged as inspected using the date on the tag as the date of last inspection as the item has not been used since the last inspection. This step is not required, but it does make future inspections easier.
It is common for items on the list to not be found for inspection. Simply write in the notes "Could Not Find" Items not found for one year may be removed from service by noting on the inspection form.
All items must meet the following criteria:
-Tag or label permanently affixed with legible serial number, reach and rated capacity.
-Any new rigging must have the Serial Number Logged in Inspection Form Spreadsheet with "In Service" date. If rigging is
supplied with a certification this should be stapled to the inspection form when the item is placed " In Service"
-Any defective rigging must be removed from service and so logged on the spreadsheet. It must be destroyed or removed
from company property.
-Be found free of defects during inspection.
- Chains must have both hooks intact and have no damaged, cut, bent, stretched or cracked links or hooks.
- Web slings must not have any cuts, rips, abrasions, burns, or other visible damage.
-Hoists and anchor points must work freely and properly with no defects.
Turn in the completed inspection form to the supervisor. Supervisor will update the document in Excel for the next inspection and print an updated hard copy for the file.
