Cable Abandonment Procedure

This procedure should be used when a cable is abandoned in the field. This can help prevent potential hazards and accidents from occurring.

    Step 1 (identification / Pre works)

    Check a permit and associated documentation is in place before proceeding. upload documents to WO if they are not already attached. Physically Identify the cable using drawings, tags and demolition details. If the cable cannot be identified the consult the supervisor and tick flag or fail below. If the above condition is satisfied tick pass below.

    Step 2 (isolation)

    Check the Isolation of the cable has been carried out. Upload the details of the isolation to the WO. If the cable cannot be identified, consult the supervisor. If the above conditions are satisfied tick pass below. If the above conditions cannot be satisfied tick flag or fail below.

    Step 3 (Disconnection source side)

    Remove and earth all cores to a suitable earthing point. Ensure the cable is not earthed to a location that will be removed later. If unsure consult the supervisor. Update drawings and tags as documented. Take pictures for reference later. If the above conditions are satisfied tick pass below. If the above conditions cannot be satisfied tick flag or fail below.

    Step 4 (Disconnection field side)

    Remove all cores from the load connections. Earth all the cores using a suitable connector / lug / blue point etc to the incoming earth provided in step 3. (this is often just linking all the cores together) If unsure consult the supervisor. Update drawings and tags as documented. Take pictures for reference later. If the above conditions are satisfied tick pass below. If the above conditions cannot be satisfied tick flag or fail below.

    Step 5 Close out (Operations)

    Complete ITRs as needed from the details below. Note one or more must be compete before the WO can be closed. Update drawings to as build / as deconstructed. Upload documents and pictures to WO.

    Step 6 Close out (Completions team)

    Have all ITR's been completed as per the WO, Work Pack and step 4 above? If the above is complete add the details in the text box below such as ITR numbers etc. If the above is not complete, then the WO cannot be completed.

    Step 7 Close out (Completions team)

    Is there any Punch list items, defects or deviations that mean this WO task is not complete? If the above is yes then add the details below to cover the remedial work or the MOC that will be used to cover the Punch list items, defects or deviations
