Maintenance for relay

Protective relays are decision-making elements in the protection scheme for electrical power systems. A strong test and maintenance program will keep protective relays in a high state of readiness and help utilities avoid equipment damage and prolonged downtime.

    Check for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion on the relay’s exterior, including the contacts, insulators, and operating mechanisms. Clean the relay’s exterior with a soft, dry cloth.

    Check the relay’s mechanical components, including the operating mechanism, trip unit, and auxiliary switches. Lubricate the moving parts as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.

    Perform electrical tests, including insulation resistance, contact resistance, and overcurrent testing, to ensure the relay’s electrical integrity.

    Clean the relay’s interior and exterior with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dust, dirt, or debris.

    Calibrate the relay’s trip unit as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.

    Test the contact resistance of the relay’s contacts to ensure they are making proper contact.
