Fall Arrest Harness PM Inspection Checklist

A fall arrest harness is a critical safety device used by workers at heights to prevent falls and protect their lives. Regular preventive maintenance ensures that these harnesses remain reliable and effective.

Webbing: -Check the entire length of the webbing for cuts, frays, abrasions, or other signs of wear. -Look for burns, chemical stains, or discoloration, which could indicate chemical damage. -Ensure there are no knots, kinks, or twists in the webbing.

-Inspect all stitching for loose threads, broken stitches, or other signs of weakening. -Ensure that stitched areas are not frayed or damaged.

-Check all buckles, D-rings, and other metal components for cracks, bends, rust, or corrosion. -Ensure all hardware is securely attached and functioning correctly (e.g., buckles lock properly).

-Verify that all labels and tags are present and legible, including the manufacturer’s information, model number, and date of manufacture. -Ensure that inspection and maintenance records are up to date and attached to the harness.

Buckles: -Test all buckles to ensure they open and close smoothly. -Verify that quick-connect buckles lock securely and release properly. D-Rings: Check D-rings for proper alignment and secure attachment. Ensure that D-rings are free of rust, corrosion, and damage. Adjustability: Test all adjustment points (e.g., shoulder, chest, leg straps) to ensure they move freely and hold their position. Adjust the harness to ensure it fits securely and comfortably on the user

Attachment Points: -Inspect all attachment points for signs of wear, damage, or deformation. -Ensure that attachment points are free from obstructions and easily accessible. -Impact Indicators: -Check for any deployed impact indicators, which indicate the harness has been subjected to a fall and must be removed from service. Padding and Comfort: -Inspect any padding or comfort components for signs of wear or damage. -Ensure padding is securely attached and provides adequate support.

-Clean the harness using mild soap and water; avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. -Allow the harness to air dry; do not use direct heat sources.

-Maintain a service history for each harness, including dates of inspections, repairs, and any falls experienced by the harness. -Establish a policy for replacing harnesses based on manufacturer recommendations, service life, and condition. -Remove any harness from service immediately if it fails inspection or shows signs of damage or wear.
